Japanese soldier, 18, arrested for shooting dead two instructors at military firing range
Japanese police have arrested an 18-year-old soldier, after he shot and killed two instructors and injured a third at a military firing range in central Gifu prefecture. Authorities said the suspect, a new recruit, fired at his instructors during a live-fire training at the Hino rifle range of the Ground Self-Defense Force. Gun possession is tightly controlled in Japan, where violent crime is rare. But several high-profile incidents over the past year have rattled the nation. The Self-Defense Force is one of few organisations that can possess guns under Japan’s strict gun laws.
